Some ajdectives have two possible forms of comparison.

Comparison of Adjectives 2

near (nahe) - nearer – nearest (Entfernung)
near – nearer – next – Reihenfolge
Where is the nearest doctor? He is not here, so go to the next.
far (weit) – farther – farthest – (Entfernung)
far – further – furthest – Reihenfolge
Golling is farther from Salzburg than Hallein.
Here is further news (weitere Neuigkeiten)
late– later – latest (= später – die letzten – neuesten)
late – latter – last = (letztere – der allerletzte)
Jill came later than Jack. (später als)
She always wears the latest fashion. (= die allerletzte/neueste Mode)
John and Jack are brothers. The former (der erstere) is thirty, the latter (der letztere) is thirty-one.
These were his last words. Then he died. (= die letzten Worte)
old – older – oldest
old – elder – eldest - ( Verwendung für Familienmitglieder) und nur attributiv (beifügend)

Gleichheit wird ausgedrückt mit as ... as (so....wie)
Bob is as tall as Tom.
Ungleichheit wird ausgedrückt mit than (als) oder not so ... as (nicht so ... wie)
Mary is taller than Ann.
Jean is not so tall as Susan.
1) Steigerung mit er - est
a) Für einsilbige Adjektive:
great - greater – greatest
tall – taller - tallest
b) für zweisilbiger Adjektive mit der Endung -y, -le, -er, -ow
happy - happier - happiest
noble - nobler - noblest
clever - cleverer - cleverest
narrow - narrower - narrowest
c) für zweisilbige Adjektive mit Betonung auf der 2. Silbe
polite (höflich)
sincere (ernst)
exact (genau)
2) Steigerung mit more /most
Für alle übrigen (mehrsilbigen) Adjektive
beautiful - more beautiful - most beautiful
3) Unregelmäßige Steigerung (Irregular Comparison)
good - better - best
bad (ill-krank) - worse - worst (schlecht)
much - more - most (viel)
many - more - most (viele)
little (small) smaller - smallest (klein)
little - less - least (wenig)
Achtung! few - fewer - fewest = wenige ........ a few = einige
